Made in Germany, these firmer gouges are used for cutting flutes, grooves and for sculpting. With the bevel being on the outside of the tool, they are commonly recognised as out-cannel gouges and are used either free hand or with a mallet.
The blades are made from a premium quality chrome vanadium tool steel, which has high resistance to metal fatigue, to withstand the demands of repeated blows from a mallet. Each blade is hardened to Rc61 along its entire length, resulting in a blade that will hold and retain a razor sharp edge, over the life of the tool, without becoming brittle when sharpened. The blades are finely polished to achieve a mirror finish to minimise friction and allow for a smooth, clean cut. The blade and tang are forged from one piece of steel, which is seated deeply into the chisel handle for strength and durability.
